World's best Rapper

Snoop Dogg

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971), better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg,[note 1] is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, media personality, entrepreneur, and actor. His music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre and featured on Dre's solo debut, "Deep Cover", and then on Dre's solo debut album, The Chronic. He has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States and 35 million albums worldwide.[5][6][7]
Snoop's debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, was released in 1993 by Death Row Records. Bolstered by excitement driven by Snoop's featuring on The Chronic, the album debuted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Selling almost a million copies in the first week of its release, Doggystyle became certified quadruple platinum in 1994 and spawned several hit singles, including "What's My Name?" and "Gin & Juice". In 1994 Snoop released a soundtrack on Death Row Records for the short film Murder Was the Case, starring himself. His second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), also debuted at number one on both charts, with "Snoop's Upside Ya Head" as the lead single. The album was certified double platinum in 1997.
After leaving Death Row Records, Snoop signed with No Limit Records, where he recorded his next three albums, Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000). Snoop then signed with Priority/Capitol/EMI Records in 2002, where he released Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. He then signed with Geffen Records in 2004 for his next three albums, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The MasterpieceTha Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin'Malice 'n Wonderland (2009), and Doggumentary (2011) were released on Priority. Snoop Dogg has starred in motion pictures and hosted several television shows, including Doggy Fizzle TelevizzleSnoop Dogg's Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. He also coaches a youth football league and high school football team. In September 2009 Snoop was hired by EMI as the chairman of a reactivated Priority Records.[8]
In 2012, after a trip to Jamaica, Snoop announced a conversion to Rastafarianism and a new alias, Snoop Lion. As Snoop Lion he released a reggae album, Reincarnated, and a documentary film of the same name, about his Jamaican experience, in early 2013. His 13th studio album, Bush, was released in May 2015 and marked a return of the Snoop Dogg name. His 14th solo studio album, Coolaid, was released in July 2016. Snoop has 17 Grammy nominations without a win. In March 2016, the night before WrestleMania 32 in Arlington, Texas, he was inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame, having made several appearances for the company, including as Master of Ceremonies during a match at WrestleMania XXIV.[9] In 2018, Snoop announced that he was "a born-again Christian" and released his first gospel album, Bible of Love.[10] On November 19, 2018, Snoop Dogg was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[11] He released his seventeenth solo album, I Wanna Thank Me in 2019.[12]

Early life

Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California, to Vernall Varnado and Beverly Broadus (née Tate).[13][14] Vernall, who was a Vietnam veteran, singer, and mail carrier, left the family only three months after Calvin’s birth and thus Calvin was named after his stepfather, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Sr.[15] His father remained largely absent from his life. As a boy, his parents nicknamed him "Snoopy" due to his love and likeness of the cartoon character from Peanuts.[16] He was the second of his mother's three sons. His mother and stepfather divorced in 1975.[13] When Calvin was very young, he began singing and playing piano at the Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church. In sixth grade, he began rapping.[17][18] As a child, Calvin sold candy, delivered newspapers, and bagged groceries to help his family make ends meet. He was described as having been a dedicated student and enthusiastic churchgoer. Calvin stated in 1993 that despite his mother’s best efforts to keep him singing in the choir and playing football, rather than gang banging and running the streets, he began the latter activity in his teenage years.[19]
Calvin would frequently rap in school. As he once recalled: "When I rapped in the hallways at school I would draw such a big crowd that the principal would think there was a fight going on. It made me begin to realize that I had a gift. I could tell that my raps interested people and that made me interested in myself."[19]
As a teenager, Calvin frequently ran into trouble with the law. He was a member of the Rollin' 20s Crips gang in the Eastside area of Long Beach;[20] although in 1993 he denied reports then in rampant circulation among police and media sources by stating that he never joined a gang.[17] Shortly after graduating from high school, he was arrested for possession of cocaine, and for the next three years, was frequently in and out of jail or prison, including Wayside Jail.[15] With his two cousins Nate Dogg and Lil' ½ Dead and friend Warren G, Snoop recorded homemade tapes; the four called their group 213 after the area code of their native Long Beach at that time. One of Snoop's early solo freestyles over "Hold On" by En Vogue was on a mixtape that fortuitously wound up with Dr. Dre; the influential producer was so impressed by the sample that he called Snoop to invite him to an audition. Former N.W.A affiliate The D.O.C. taught him how to structure his lyrics and separate the thematics into verses, hooks, and choruses.[21
